Hi Friends,
Thank you to everyone who reads this publication, Relatively True, which I started nearly a year ago now. Writing RT is a great way for me to explore what I really think & feel about various issues and to develop my craft. It helps me to be true to myself and I hope my pieces help you to recognise your own truth, too.
This morning, I had a rare browse through my Relatively True archive to take stock and allow myself a moment of personal satisfaction from the work I’ve created here so far. My favourite pieces, either because they say things that are particularly important to say or because I’m most happy with the writing in them, are -
Motherhood: Damned if we Do, Damned if we Don’t
Pink. Plastic. Perfect (Gotta have the Barbie post!)
Listing them here, I’ve just noticed that all of these pieces are about the experience of being a woman. What’s that telling me?
Recently, I started a short-term job in a school. I value the work because it makes a contribution to others but it has stolen my writing time. As well as that, I find the final third of the year is like a ball rolling down a hill - it just keeps gathering speed. Looking ahead, I can see that publishing twice a month will be a stretch too far for me for the foreseeable future.
So, I’m reluctantly pressing pause on Relatively True. I look forward to pushing play again when the time is right.
In the meantime, let’s all find ways to be more true to ourselves and to honour others for being true to themselves (even when their truth is different from our own).
Yours truly,
Julie

Those are all great pieces, all your pieces have been great. Your writing has helped me see how being a woman has influenced how others relate to me and think about me. My hope is that younger generations can gain this insight earlier in life than I did. On another note, thanks for modelling the important act of self-care by taking writing 'Relatively True' off your plate until you have space (and wanting) to put it back on. xx
